Amazakoué

Amazakoué heartwood usually presents with varying shades of yellowish to reddish brown with darker brown, gray or black stripes. In this regard, it may in fact resemble Wenge, another African hardwood.The sapwood is a pale yellow and is not generally of interest to the woodworker.It is common for Amazakoué to present with a curly or rippled grain pattern.

Overview

Amazakoué is yellow brown to dark brown with gray to almost black stripes; its sapwood is yellow/ white, and is clearly demarcated. Its texture is moderately coarse and it’s grain straight to interlocked. It has an attractive figure; however, has an unpleasant odor when freshly cut.

Working Properties

Saws slowly but well for its density, works fairly easily with hand and machine tools, planes to a good finish, must be heated before slicing into veneers. May stain when in contact with metal.

Durability

It's moderately durable, with good resistance to insect attack.
